A Word About Cost
If you compare my rates to those of other experienced editors, you'll find my fees reasonable. I keep the rates low because I work from my home office and don't have a lot of extra expense. The fact that I love my work is a plus.
Be wary of very low rates because it's possible your editing services will consist of a quick run through a computer software editing program. It's true such a program will correct many punctuation and syntax errors, but it will not give you line by line review for content and meaning.
I view every assignment as an opportunity to build a lasting relationship with my client. I haven't lost sight of my early struggle to become published, and I promise to do everything I can to help you succeed.
Another difference is my offer to provide a free, no obligation estimate on the time and cost of your project. You don't need to worry about an immediate out of pocket expense. Just click on any 'Request an Estimate' button, provide the information I ask for, and together we'll find a way to jump-start your work.
Finally, the charges listed below are never incurred until you've requested an estimate, and we are in agreement.

Manuscript Evaluation
Send a story, a chapter from your novel, or a book premise. I'll review it and provide an honest and informed analysis. Along with written comments and recommendations, I'll send you a bill, based on a rate of $35.00 dollars per hour.
Each critique is tailored to your needs and includes an analysis of style, plot, characters, dialogue, setting, and marketing possibilities.

Polishing Your Synopsis and Query Letter
A strong query letter and synopsis can sell your project to an agent or editor. I'll help you polish and revise these documents until they reflect the true quality of your work. The charge for this service is $35.00 per hour. The average time for polishing is one to two hours.

Line Editing/Content Editing
I'll review your manuscript line by line, making notations on each page, and also providing a written report with an overview of the manuscript.
The fee for standard line editing is $8.00 per manuscript page. Keep in mind that line editing is highly time-consuming.
I also offer electronic line editing, a more sophisticated service using the "Track Changes" feature of your word processing software. My suggested changes appear in red ink, and you have the option to accept or reject them. This gives you complete control: You apply the edits and create your own polished manuscript.

Payment
Payment options are flexible and may be based upon your needs. I accept payment by check, money order, credit card, or PayPal. Out of pocket expense (such as printing) will be billed at cost.

Delivery Options

Floppy Disk - By Priority, Overnight, 2nd Day, etc.

Delivery charges will be billed to your account or added to the invoice.

What to Expect
As I edit your manuscript, we'll explore your strengths and weaknesses as a writer. I'll point out such problems as overuse of passive verbs, unrealistic dialogue, recurring grammar problems, and inconsistencies in plot and characterization. Together, we'll correct these problems and build a stronger manuscript.

What I Can Do
Help identify and build on your strengths as a writer, which will include finding and cultivating your unique voice.

What I Can't Do
No editor can guarantee publication, but I will help you work toward that goal.
